An appearance by Yaakov Shwekey scheduled for tomorrow in Har Nof has been cancelled at the urging of Rav Shmuel Auerbach, rosh yeshiva of Yeshiva Maalos Hatorah. The event, which was to be held at Mosdos Oros Hateshuvah, headed by Rav Daniel Bitton, was called off following a meeting attended by Rav Bitton at the home of Rav Auerbach in the Shaarei Chesed neighborhood of Yerushalayim. Rav Shmuel, according to sources, said the event should be cancelled even if it involves a financial loss. The reasons for Rav Shmuel’s decision were not immediately clear, but one source said that there was fear of an atmosphere of frivolity.
In recent days, word spread about Shwekey’s appearance at the event, but, as per Rav Auerbach’s instruction, the singer will not appear at Oros Hateshuvah. Instead, it has been learned, a different yeshiva has hired Shwekey to appear at its Simchas Bais Hashoeivah tomorrow night in Givat Shaul. Entry to the event will be by invitation only, to prevent the gathering from turning into a public event and drawing large crowds which are difficult to control. An orchestra of eight players will also be present at the event.
