Rav Amnon Yitzchok against Jewish Singers

Recently, Rav Amnon Yitzchak went to Rav Aharon Leib Shteinman to discuss the problems that he feels have emerged in contemporary Jewish music and the effects of the non-Torah culture on the Jewish music scene and singers.

When Rav Yitzchak mentioned a certain singer, Rav Shteinman responded, "Is he secular?" and Rav Yitzchak responded that no, he is religious and that "there is no house in the religious world that doesn't have his discs."
Rav Shteinman smiled and said, "I don't have his discs."

For most of the video, Rav Shteinman does not respond to various comments of Rav Yitzchak, but listens as the latter shares his various concerns.

Meir Dorfman – The "Davening" collection

Meir Dorfman has served as a chazzan for almost two decades in Israel and throughout the world. In addition, Dorfman studies in a kollel, learning Torah and participating in various fascinating kiruv initiatives. Congregations where he hasserved as chazzan have come to appreciate his unique abilities producing music from the very depths of his heart that inspires the soul with the purity and power of his davening. Dorfman who has played the piano since childhood, a musician and composer, did not gain his knowledge in music schools such as exist today. He insisted on taking the more difficult path, and so was privileged to study with the top chazzanim , music and voice production teachers, thereby developing a voice which is outstanding in every way. This in addition to the glorious ancient nusach in the Lithuanian tradition which he received from his father, Dr. Moshe Dorfman.

"Chazzanut and music have the power to draw hearts closer and make the chords of the soul quiver, enhancing the feeling of standing before Hashem. All this takes place more readily in shul amongst a congregation each wrapped in his talis, than at a grandiose concert with numerous musicians. Even when chazzanut steps up on stage, its purpose is to bring the shul there, and not the opposite, heaven forbid."

In the course of his years as a chazzan, Dorfman has assembles a variety of unique recordings. In addition, he has founded many cantorial choirs in Jewish communities throughout the world, which have accompanied him. Several such prayer compositions have been recorded in the studio whilst managing to create the atmosphere of a shul. His brother, Ariel has brought all these recordings together in a unique collection titled "Davening". "I looked specifically for pieces recorded at live performances or similar to that, which to me are preferable to studio recordings", explains Ariel Dorfman, the producer, "despite the amount of work entailed in bringing some of the pieces to the required technical standard, as this enables the feeling of actual davening to be conveyed to the listener, as if he is standing with the chazzan, before HaKadosh Baruch Hu."…

Meir Dorfman's voice can be heard not just when lifted in prayer. Every week he gives lectures at a workshop in authentic Judaism aimed at the enquiring population of Tel Aviv. This is a musical – emotional – spiritual journey starting out from the week's parsha via Hebrew song, midrash, the Zohar on the parsha, Chassidic stories, psychology and more, utilizing the unique power of music. The "Davening" collection contains three albums – for shacharit, maariv and for the yamim noraim.

Chabad with Moshe Laufer" a Revolution in Chabad Music

50 musicians, 3 years of work, 4 singer and dozens of vocal and Kids choir. This summarizes one of the most spectacular musical projects in Jewish music. Entitles, "Chabad with Moshe Laufer", the new album which its producers describe as "unprecedented".

Produced by Levi Tubul, the new disk is set to be released for Shavous.

The album takes Moshe Laufer back to his early days, 30 years ago, when he produced his first Chabad music CD. Laufer is a legendary composer, conductor and arranger, who recently was the recipient of the prestigious ACUM music award. In this latest work, he presents a up-till-now unsuccessful endeavor. He has ostensibly brought together the sound of modern music and Chabad's authenticity and sensitive touch, creating a fusion in which neither end is jeopardized.

"He wanted to create an album that could introduce the new sound of music into Chabad music, without compromising the perfection of the notes," said a source involved in the production.

The album features four Chabad singer. Shlomo Simcha and Mendy Jerufi are both well known. Shmulik Listvand, brother of the famous Dedi duo Amit, and Menachem Levy also feature on the album, beginning their musical careers at a respectable place.

The last ends are being tied together, ahead of the album's release. In the final masterpiece, which was produced jointly by the finest musicians, is conducted by Eli {Ilya} Lishinsky.

Shira Chadasha Boys Choir -Al Hatorah - EXCLUSIVE Sampler

Nachmen Seltzer is back with his latest Shira Chadasha Boys choir album coming Soon

One of the earliest performances of the choir was at the Siyum Hashas in Yerushalayim which was held at Binyanei Hauma. It was an incredibly moving experience for everyone who has the privilege to attend. Standing right in front of three rows of Gedolei Hador was a tremendous zechus. Seeing the huge crowd stand and call out "Baruch Shem Kavod Malchuso Liolam Vaed" was a moment that brought tears to many eyes. But the highlight of the evening for me personally was when the Rosh Yeshiva of Yeshivas Mir Yerushalayim, Rav Nosson Tzvi Finkel Shlita, arose to speak. His message was short but so inspirational. "Hadran Alecha Talmud Bavli'" he said, and you could feel how much he loved those words. He continued, "Hadran Aleicha Talmud Bavli are the most beautiful words that a Yid can say!" Thus was born the kernal of the song Hadran and the cornerstone of The Torah Album. May we merit to sing this very song at the upcoming Siyum Hashas and may we all be zoche to hear shiur from Moshiach in the newly rebuilt Beis Hamikdash speedily in our days. (Nachman Seltzer, producer and composer)

Eitan Klienman - Dmaot Harel -איתן קלינמן - דמעות הראל

Part of him still lights up the path of my life

Eitan Kleinman's memorial song:

"Harel's Tears"

The story of the song Harel's Tears began 17 years ago when the life of Lieutenant Harel Shrem z"l came to an end when he was only 21. Harel, an officer in Brigade 188 of the tank corps was serving in the security zone in Lebanon. Although he had been away from home for four consecutive weeks, he opted to remain yet another Shabbat with his company, despite his family's plans to celebrate his niece's birthday that Shabbat. Harel decided that it was he who was most suited to command a complicated maneuver to open a route into hostile territory. Along with his crew he carried out the task. Towards the end, minutes before they turned to come back, the tank was hit by missiles. Harel who was standing exposed in the turret was killed on the spot.

Eitan Kleinman, composer and performer of the song Harel's Tears, relates: "To this day I still recall the telephone call telling me of Harel's death. The pain and sorrow that pierced my heart have never gone away." Eitan, who was at the time in advanced training in the tank corps, had known Harel from the "Golan" Hesder Yeshiva where they both learned. "Harel had in him a serenity and a quality that reached out from a distance and touched you, he was a role model to many." That night Eitan was guarding the tanks. He recalls that "the tanks stood silent, immobile, but the winds howled strongly both outside and within and so the song was born."

As soon as he finished guard duty, Eitan wrote down the words that had become engraved in his mind. "I still have the scrap of paper covered with tank grease", he notes. The song lay in a drawer for a year until he mustered the courage to give it to the family. "I asked myself if it would hurt them, cause them needless pain? Only after I met them did I realize the truth of the words that I had written: "Part of him still lights up the path of my life" and how important it is to the family, how much strength they derive from knowing that so many people carry Harel's memory in their hearts, and how much it affects their lives."

Harel's Tears stayed in the drawer for another 16 years. "It was obvious to me that when I brought out my first album, Harel's Tears would be an integral part of it, I just didn't think it would take so long", Eitan adds with a smile. Recently, when his album About to Change came out, Eitan contacted the family and gave them the song he had written about their son. "Today, 17 years later, it is clear to me how the pain of his death does not get better… like a bullet that has torn, it is never healed (words from the song). How much Harel's absence is felt amongst his friends who have grown up, got married and are now parents of children that will soon be drafted into the army." The family were moved by Eitan's revelations. Moshe Shrem, Harel's father, says the family are amazed how each year new things are revealed about Harel, from another angle of a person whose life was touched by Harel.

By amazing coincidence the family asked Eitan to sing Harel's Tears at an event marking 5 years since the establishment of the Meir Harel hesder yeshiva in Modiin, named after Harel. The event was attended by many distinguished guests, among them the IDF Chief of Staff. Eitan relates "I found myself singing Harel's Tears before the family, hesder soldiers and the Chief of Staff. A song is like a child that you set free in the world, never knowing where the child will get to or what he will do. And I could not have hoped for more than this."

But the song's story does not end there. Just recently Eitan had a meeting with a producer about a clip they planned to make for one of the songs from About to Change. " I met Binyamin (Astorlis the producer of the clip) through the internet", says Eitan. "When we met and talked about the album About to Change and the planned clip, I happened to mention the song Harel's Tears and its amazing story. Binyamin volunteered to take upon himself the making of a clip of the song, which left me without words, hearing again the echoes of
a snatch of the song "Part of him still lights up the path of my life". The purpose of a visual clip is to retain the powerful effect of the music on the one hand, whilst also portraying the meaning. I think Binyamin did a great job in presenting another dimension of life in the clip, the right way to remember Harel."
